El Abajeño: Experience Authentic Mexican Flavors in Culver City

Food has been Authentic and Excellent taste, Service Excellent, Muy Bueno!!! Very comfortable atmosphere. I have been going to El ABAJEÑO , for many years and never disappointed!!!

Still love this place after years eating here. Keep coming back, especially for chiccharones plate, saucy tostatas, and big burritos. Lots of flavor in generous portions. Love their sauces. Miss being able to see and choose from the pots of simmered meats and sauces. The took away the cafeteria style line to add tables. Now you have to pick from menu after looking at posted pictures.

Good casual-dining Mexican restaurant with delicious well-marinated/seasoned meats & generous portions! A rare place that also offers chicharrones! The meats are nicely seasoned, juicy, and flavorful. Serving sizes are LARGE. Burritos are BIG. Tostadas are BIG. Bring your appetite. We like all their flavors of meat; we especially like the wet fiesta burrito (w/ red sauce), super tostada, & chicharrones. With so many good choices of meat, we haven't yet had a chance to try the seafood: fish tacos, ceviche, ... For a casual Los Angeles eatery, it is a decent size and has a dozen rectangular tables for dining. Adjacent parking lot is convenient.

Excellent food,has been a neighborhood stable for over 50 years. There's reasons this place has survived.

Amazing burritos, cute homey vibes inside, and I pretty much only heard people speaking in Spanish inside the restaurant which suggests to me good is authentic and excellent. Huge menu with quite a few vegetarian options, the vegetarian burrito is excellent, will try the veggie super tostada next time. Delicious chips and salsa, and they were nice enough to give us some sauce for the burritos without charge. Free easy parking in the lot next to it. Absolutely will go back!

El Abajeno is the best Mexican food on the west side. It's the real deal: you walk in and there's Mexican people at the tables, the register, and in the kitchen. The walls are covered in Mexican art, painted beautiful on tile. Everyone is speaking Spanish, there's Mexican music playing over the speakers. You can't get any more authentic than this spot. On top of the mellow ambiance, the food tastes great and is reasonably priced. I got the Chile Colorado dinner plate (pictured) and it was some of the best meat I've ever had in a Mexican dish. My Mexican girlfriend even ate my leftover beans because, in her words, they're "just like abuelita used to make them". If you're into Mexican food, don't sleep on this place.

El Abajeno is a good place to get classic Mexican fare that hits both the quality and quantity mark well. They have burritos for $10-13 and taquitos for $6 among other items. You order at the front and pick up at the front but self seating. The lengths Taquito was delish - double tortilla with a the most amount of thick cut lengua I've ever had on a taco. Very tender and flavorful. Tortilla was decent and tasted freshly made. Burrito with pork beans and rice is a tank that will leave you stuffed. It's def one meant to be eaten with fork and knife (it'll more likely fall apart if you try to lift it). You can get it wet, dry, or sauce on the side. Would recommend the sauces to give it some more acidity and flavorful. Decent chunks of pork and plenty of rice and beans. For the price, good value.

While the line took a while due to a short staffing issue. El Abaneño is some of my favorite Mexican food in Los Angeles County. The dining area is nice and spacious, the menu is decently priced and has everything that your abuela ever cooked up for you in your childhood. To top it off, generous portions are a given here. There's a reason it's been in the community for 60+ years! Give it a try if you're in the Culver area.
